Testflight (to a lesser extent: Hockey) does analytics purely to make
up for the fact their core business is/was silly and not worth paying
for. This is more an issue for Testflight, which traditionally did
"nothing", than for Hockey, which had close tie-ins with QuincyKit.
I'd say they're almost the same today, except TF seems consistently
incapable of providing sensible, working GUI's for their data for
years at a time (e.g. we had unreadable logs in their system for 6+
months, with only a hand-waving "you're right, maybe we should make it
so you can actually view the logs - we'll do that one day" in the
meantime. Absurd!)
Ultimately, though, neither of them know what they're doing with
analytics, and it's foolish to use them when GA exists *and pre-dates
them by multiple years*.
(historically, one explanation for why Flurry is so poor today is that
they made "app recommendations" their core business, as a higher-value
/ easier to monetize product; using TF or Hockey for analytics is
likely to leave you in th same situation: it's a non-core product that
doesn't represent a future money-stream, and it's likely to rot)
...or if you're really unlucky, it'll go the way of OpenFeint and
their competitors, who simply "stopped" core (but not monetizable
enough) services often with barely weeks of notice.
Better to use a site that actually you know ... focusses on Analytics.
(if not -- why not do it yourself? a basic Analytics solution is very
very easy to create :))
